Okay, so the above statement is a slight white lie. Okay a huge one, but nevertheless, deep down I suppose it is what we are trying to do.
Moray Operatic and Dramatic Society was first envisaged on a mid-summer day, over a coffee, a bottle of Tango, a chocolate muffin, and a slice of cake, in the summer of 2017. With many years of experience in musical theatre and amateur dramatics, the conversation meandered its way around to the fact that there weren’t many amateur theatre groups that catered to all age groups, or one with few enough members that could produce small productions within the Moray area. With this in mind, the two founder members gently lent on several friends with various experience in dance, theatre, and musical theatre, to create the company that it is today.
Our philosophy is simple. To produce a show, be it original or reproduced, involving all ages and all parts of the moray-wide community. But in doing so, we want to try to eradicate the closed-shop mentality that comes with the theatre. We’re all friends here, and there is no ‘we and them just us, we talk and discuss, and ensure we all come together to sing from the same hymn sheet, both committee and members. There’s no me in the team.
We are strictly by Application, Audition, and Invitation to ensure everyone gets a chance and allows us to use everyone’s skills for both drama and musical theatre. We will have specific numbers for every production and hope to be able to give everyone their chance to shine be it backstage or in the spotlight.
